The Reboot is a publication that critically examines the internet. We investigate today’s most urgent internet issues to inform the public about network technologies, the data economy, and their effects on society.
The Reboot is sponsored by the DFINITY Foundation, a Switzerland-based not-for-profit scientific organization, and is rooted in an independent editorial community of journalists, academics, researchers, policy experts, and illustrators who are focused on building a better internet.
We believe in an internet that is open and free. Today, corporations have consolidated control over our online lives, enforcing commercial domains where they enjoy immense power. While the centralization of computing and data has made it possible to connect billions of people, the closed networks that have resulted from this growth betray the original internet’s decentralized design, intensifying the problems of exclusion, inequity, surveillance, and insecurity that we struggle with today.
We need more than a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” option, the mere existence of which speaks volumes — we need to take back control.
It’s time for a reboot.
